Leave the Ship and Do It Anyway!

My wife and I took the kids to see a pair of historic sailing ships docked at the harbor last week. Even though they probably were nothing compared to the Mayflower, The Columbus Foundation faithfully reproduced the Nina and Pinta to navigate the coastal ocean and waterways of the United States.

One of the most commonly asked question of the crew was “Where was the Santa Maria?” Didn’t Columbus have 3 ships? The captain then explained that the Nina and the Pinta only need 7 feet of water to navigate, while the Santa Maria needed 14 feet of water. They couldn’t risk hitting bottom with a ship that rode that deep so they decided to tour with what they had.

What would have happened if The Columbus Foundation decided to scrap the entire project because they didn’t build the Santa Maria? What if Columbus decided to scrap the entire adventure because the first Santa Maria actually did run aground?

How many times have you decided you wanted to learn how to market your coaching business online, but decided you wouldn’t do it just yet because you didn’t have all of your ducks in a row? Everything wasn’t perfectly researched, organized, set-up, written or recorded.

What do you think would happen if you worked with what you had Right Now? What if you turned the kitchen timer to 50 minutes and gave 110% towards finishing something, ANYTHING that would close the gap and complete your goals? Personally, I think that would be one less ship in the harbor and you would be that much closer to the ocean you’ve been wanting to see for a long time.
